Seasons are Changing....

Last Week in EnvOE 8 We:

• Worked on appreciating our outdoor school environment.
• Had an opportunity to test choices in different simulated outdoor situations
• Had a presentation from Brandon at Avalanche Canada on Avalanche Safety.

Coming Up:

• The weather is changing.  We will still go outside.  Please dress appropriately.
• Have you completed your poster?

In EnvOE 8 we have been working on:

• Cooperative Activities
1. we all move together like a wheel
2. untie the human knot
• Those of you who participated did very well.
• Why do we need the ability to cooperate with others during outdoor pursuits?
• Have you finished your Shopping Spree?  Do you understand how to LAYER clothing and WHY it is important?
• Have you finished your Keep Our School Beautiful poster?

In EnvOE 8 we have been working on:

• Cooperative Games such as Craters and Volcanoes, Predator-Prey.  Why is it important to work collaboratively during outdoor pursuits?
• How to Dress appropriately for outdoor activity.
• Took some notes about dressing for the outdoors.
• Did a shopping spree challenge.  Is yours done?  Have you shared it with me?

• More Cooperative Games

• We all go outside or we all stay inside.  This is weather dependent, and dependent on what concepts we need to cover.

This Week In EnvOE 8 we:

• Talked about strategies animals use to hide.
• Played Camouflage.
• Talked about a general pyramid organisation of organisms.  Produces, Consumers, Virus.....
• Played the Predator-Prey game.  When we play the game why do we start with more producers than anything else?

• Dress for Success - in EnvOE
• How is your poster promoting "Keeping our School Beautiful" coming along?  When we have indoor days, you should take time to work on it.

In EnvOE 8 we have been working on:

• Identifying biotic and abiotic factors in our school yard
• How do they interact?  Why is that important?
• Observing weather changes and what would be safe and comfortable conditions for outdoor activity.  
• What are our responsibilities to ensure our activity is comfortable and safe?
• Played camouflage.  Why do we play?  How is it related to EnvOE?
• Started our "Keep our School Beautiful" assignment for communication and environmental stewardship.  
• What is stewardship and why is it important?

• What life style changes can we make to help our environment?
• Why do you think they are important?
• Finish our School Environmental Stewardship poster.
• Explore how camouflage and EnvOE are connected.

Welcome to Environmental and Outdoor Education 8!

I am looking forward to working with you this year!

So far in EnvOE 8 we have:

• Walked around out school.
• made observations of our school yard 
• recorded our observations on flip chart paper as a group
• what made you happy about our school yard?
• what made you sad about our school yard?
• Talked about HOTTEA to help support SAFE outdoor trip planning - Hazard, Objective, Team, Tell, Equipment, Alone
• Talked about Choose your own adventure days and participation in cooperative games such as camouflage.

Coming up:

• The great yard clean up expedition.
